Kathryn's Guide to New Orleans

For sister's 1 year anniversary, she (and Nicky) skipped town and decided to explore an American city that was new to the two of them…New Orleans. Food? Check. Lots of walking and exploring? Check. Good music? Check. Great places to stay? Check. Good Shopping? Check. This charming, historic U.S. city truly makes for the perfect relaxing getaway. Here's everything that she 10/10 recommends.

Where to Stay:

The Henry Howard Hotel

We LOVED the Henry Howard. The balcony off our bedroom was the perfect place for AM coffees, afternoon reading and evening cocktails.

Where to Eat:

Brunch: Willa Jean

Get.the.biscuits.

Lunch: Shaya

You wouldn’t expect to come to New Orleans for Israeli food but this may have been one of my favorite meals of the trip, don’t miss it.

Dinner: N7

I don’t know what was better, the food or the setting. We entered this gem-of-a-restaurant via a discreet wooden door and found ourselves in the most charming back yard – lit with tiki torches and twinkling lights where we proceeded to have a delicious multi-course French-inspired meal. The perfect romantic evening, no matter who you are with.

Cocktails + Music: Bacchanal

Don’t be intimidated by the line outside, it moves quickly and the overflowing cheese plates, delicious wines, and live music are well worth the wait.

What to do:

Take the trolley car up St. Charles:

A great way to see the city.

Explore the French Quarter:

It’s a little touristy but the live music assembled along the street is fantastic and transports you to another time and place.

New Orleans Museum of Art:

We loved the Sculpture Garden, which features some fantastic modern art, my favorite was Henry Moore’s “Reclining Mother and Child” which seemed especially appropriate because we visited on Mother’s Day.

Where to Shop:

Pilot & Powell:

This year-old boutique in the Garden District is not to be missed (and not only because yours truly is carried there). Shop hard-to-find brands like Adeam, Gigi Burris, Rosetta Getty, Toteme and personal favorites Apiece Apart, Rachel Comey, Marni and more.
